The vet took the time to meet with us and answer some questions even though we did not have a scheduled appointment. She helped us come up with a revised feeding plan for our cat and provided ideas on next steps. The vet techs were wonderful and helpful even after the cat became openly hostile and handled the situation very professionally. I would highly recommend this practice to other pet parents. Dog was attacked by another dog, so I rushed him here as fast as I could. I early morning, just got up, wearing flip flops, probably didn't look like I could afford a burger let alone a vet bill. The staff rushed him straight into surgery, even had some appointments had to reschedule. Vet went straight to work and did everything they could. Got him back same day and paid same day, next day he was getting better. During the weekend I had to take him to the 24 hr place (Worst Experience In my Life) compared to this place. I then brought him back here on Monday. They said he would need a specialist to see what was causing the breathing issues, however after watching my dog suffer for so long I was going to put him to sleep. However Vet offered to at least try a few things to possibly drain whatever was causing him such trouble breathing. In the end we did loose him however it was not due to the lack of effort. Felt like everything was done to save him. Read Less

New to the area and this was my first experience setting up care for my aging Kitty. Ability to get an appointment was easy and I was greeted with warm hospitality along with my pet. Once registered I was taken right into an exam room and the doctor was there in a matter of minutes. Really pleased that I chose Tates Creek Animal Hospital to set up care for my cat. Staff was professional, courteous, caring and very welcoming. Happy to be a new patient and my worries about my pet are relieved. We moved to Lexington about 3 years ago and found Tates Creek Animal Hospital because it was close to our house and my office. I couldn't say enough good things about Dr. McClain and his staff. We lost our precious dog whom I have had since May 2004 on Monday, 11/14/2017 and his staff was wonderful with him and us. They answered all our questions with the utmost respect and sympathy. They helped us with our next steps and offered heartfelt hugs and condolences. I trusted them with my most precious possession and they always cared for him wonderfully. My dog George has been a patient for 9 years. Dr. McClain and the staff have been wonderful beyond words - they are always kind, patient and informative. I ask a lot of questions and have been known to get emotional, but I've always felt heard and important. Options, risks and costs have always been well explained and procedures have been conducted seamlessly and professionally. But my experience with them has been so much more than a job well done. They have always made me feel that they really, really cared about both of us. They've been worried when I was worried, relieved when I was relieved, and yesterday when we had to say goodbye (we're relocating out of state), they were as sad to lose us as I am to lose them. That meant so much to me. Knowing your dear pet is well cared for is a great , relieving feeling. George is a happy and healthy senior and I'm so grateful. I cannot recommend them enough. Read Less

I took my brand new long-coat chihuahua puppies here in the fall of 2014. The receptionist was friendly but once I got into a private room with the vet it was a different story. He wasn't kind or welcoming at all. He told me chihuahuas were "awful little dogs" and that I should have done better breed research. Then he took each puppy from me and flipped them on their back to show he was dominant. Very outdated practice. The entire exam was conducted in a back room which was unsettling as I knew nothing about the vet or his office. I never returned and would not recommend this office to anyone. If you don't choose a dog breed the vet personally approves of you'll be lectured. How unprofessional!Read Less

I have been taking my pets to Dr. McClain for the past 30 years and will continue to do so until he retires! He and his staff are always so knowledgable, compassionate, and caring. They have always treated my pets as if they were their own. When I have sadly lost a pet, they have always sent a card and a thoughtful gift. While caring for a sick pet can get very expensive, I would never even consider finding another vet that would charge less. I could never express how much appreciate them and the care they have provided all of my pets. Read Less

I just moved to town and my cat was having problems. I took her to Tates Creek Animal Hospital and paid them $200 for a half hour visit and complete misdiagnosis. When I called back to try to get help I was very polite and they told me they SEND ALL THEIR CAT REFERRALS TO ANOTHER VET!!! Needless to say, I never went to their ""recommended"" Vet, but I did find help for my kitty. Save yourself a nightmare and avoid Tates Creek Animal Hospital at all costs!!! Read Less

I have two dogs, the first one saw Dr. McClain and I had a wonderful experience with him and his assistant. But then when I brought my second dog in, I got stuck with Dr. Quigby who masks incompetence by being aggressive with pet owners. She is one of the newer vets in the practice and sees the clients who don't know any better to ask for someone else. I will NEVER see her again for my dogs. She just ran up the bill with worthless things, some of which I had told her not to do, but she did them anyway. Getting any prescriptions from her is also like pulling teeth because she is the smartest person in the world, with the wrong advice. I recently visited the Tates Creek Animal Hospital because my dog was depressed due to the new arrival of a puppy in the house. The veternarian Dr. Quigley took one look at my dog and recognizing that she was a Stafford Shire came up with her treatment plan. She flat out asked me if I had thought about the option of putting my baby down. Instead of thinking of a treatment she recomended that I let her take my babys life because she was depressed. I have never had my dog treated in this manner in my life. She is a sweet dog, she was just depressed. Read Less
