At the house, Downey was undressed, gagged and forcibly posed for photographs before being raped and killed, perhaps strangled with a piece of string. The attack was recorded on a reel-to-reel audio tape, with both Brady and Hindley's voices appearing, as their victim screamed and begged for mercy.

She was aquainted with Hindley and thought nothing of going to help her look for a glove she had lost on Saddleworth Moor. Once there, she was assaulted by Brady and buried in a shallow grave, where her body lay undiscovered for over 20 years.

There is no explanation or closure in the case of the Moors Murders. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the case would remain open after Brady's death as the body of Bennett is still missing. Brady never showed any remorse for his crimes.
